Completed Milestones

  • Upgrade of WordPress to 3.6

The upgrade to WordPress 3.6 was completed on Tuesday morning during the ‘At-Risk’ service period. The upgrade suffered the same issue as the 3.5.2 update, requiring a manual upgrade to be completed. Hopefully the 3.6 update fixes this issue and future updates can be applied through the in-platform upgrade system.

WordPress 3.6 brings a new Compare Revisions feature (which will automatically display on the right side of every post under the ‘Publish’ widget) as well as an updated mutliple-user mode which brings a new Augmented Autosave feature and Post Locking capability. Also premiering in this release is the new WordPress HTML5 Media Player, which will start a shift away from content based in Flash player which is incompatible with most mobile devices.

The full feature-list for WordPress 3.6 can be read here, and the ChangeLog can be accessed here.

  • Update of WordPress to 3.5.2

Upgraded to 3.5.2 on Tuesday 30th July 2013 during the morning ‘At-risk’ period. This was a minor upgrade that did not require any downtime. There was a slight issue involving the Automatic Update System during this update – The automatic update refused to process, requiring a manual update to be done.
The ChangeLog for WordPress 3.5.2 can be viewed here on the WordPress codex.

  • Update of W3 Total Cache Plugin

The latest update to the W3 Total Cache Plugin has brought some optimizations for WordPress MU. Cache settings are now configurable centrally instead of per-site. This means that we have enabled W3 Total Cache for all sites in the Royal Holloway WPnet.

A side-effect of the upgrade might be that changes that you publish might not be immediately visible to you if the previous version of the page / post are held in a cache.
To force the cache to purge, hover over the ‘Performance’ button in the floating top menu bar, then select ‘Empty all Caches’. Refresh the page / post you’ve edited and you should see the updated content

  • Upgrade of WordPress to 3.5.1

Upgraded to 3.5.1 on Friday 25th January 2013 during the morning. This was a minor upgrade and did not require any downtime.

  • Upgrade of WordPress to 3.5
